Shaunt Basmajian Chapbook Award




1996 marked the inauguration of the Shaunt Basmajian Chapbook Award: an annual manuscript publication competition and award named in memory of one of the CPA's founding members, Shaunt Basmajian.
The contest is open to members and non-members alike .


RULES


  • 1. Entry should be a manuscript of poems up to 20 pages in length


  • 2. Poems may be published (other than chapbook or book form) or unpublished,

  • and may be in an a style or tradition similar to Shaunt's ie: Concrete Poetry, Political Poetry, Street Poetry

unique in reality and earthiness, direct and to the point.

  • 3. Manuscripts must be typed single-spaced. The title, but not the author's name,

  • should appear on each sequentially numbered page of the manuscript. A separate sheet should give the manuscript title and the author's name, address and telephone number.


  • 4. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable.


  • 5. Manuscripts will not be returned. Please do not send original.


  • 6. Entrants can order a copy of the winning or previous winners chapbook direct from the publisher for $6.


  • 7. Finalists for the Award will be given an opportunity to read from their work at a CPA event.


  • 8. The winning manuscript will be published as a chapbook in the Canadian Poetry Association Shaunt Basmajian Chapbook Award Series. Copyright will remain with the author.


  • 9. The author of the winning manuscript will receive 50 copies of the chapbook, as well as a cash prize. The author must be prepared to autograph another 50 copies of the book for the CPA. The winning author may purchase additional copies at 50% of retail.


  • 10. Judging will be by the London Chapter CPA committee.


  • 11. Entry fee is $15, by cheque or money order payable to the Canadian Poetry Association.


  • 12. Entries must be postmarked by April 30th annually.
