Shaun Maloney (born 24 January , 1983 ) is a Scottish Footballer , who currently plays for Celtic F.C. Shaun Maloney was born in Miri, Malaysia , where he spent the first four and a half years of his life. His family then moved to his mother's home-town of Aberdeen , Scotland . At a young age, Shaun found a love for sport, namely Football and Tennis . By the age of 10, he had started taking football more seriously. Although still only playing for fun, and not really planning a career in it, he had joined his first football club, Kincorth Boys' Club. At 12, he moved to Culter Boys' Club. At 14 he moved to Albion Boys' Club, where he really started to knuckle down. It was there he started getting a taste for success, playing for a team who expected to win. It was then he realised he wanted to make a career out of football. At 14, both Dundee F.C. and Dundee United F.C. asked him to sign 'S' forms. Then just after he turned 15, Heart Of Midlothian F.C. approached him with the same offer. He started to become anxious, fearing Celtic F.C. - who had a Scout advising him not to accept any offers - would never sign him. His patience paid off in the end, as only a few months later, Celtic offered him the 'S' form he desired. Upon turning 16 and leaving school, he joined Celtic full time. The rigorous side of training took him by surprise at the start, but he soon adapted. He made his first team debut on 29 April , 2001 . Coming on as a substitute against Rangers F.C. at Ibrox Stadium , Shaun became an instant hit. Although uncomposed (which would be expected in the circumstances), the fans could see he had talent, notably his extremely quick feet. As Celtic went on to win the game 3 - 0, no missed chances were dwelled upon. Midway through the 2003-2004 season, Shaun picked up a career-threatening cruciate ligament injury. Although it did take him over a year to fully recover, he still seems to have that sparkle. After Celtic's worst European defeat in their history, in which they lost 5 - 0 to Artmedia Bratislava , Shaun was one of the only players who could leave the stadium knowing he had given his all, a sentiment shared with the majority of the Celtic support. Later on in the season Celtic played Rangers and he scored a magnificent goal from all of forty yards into the goal of the helpless Klos. He has so far scored 15 goals for celtic this season and is a strong candidate for player of the year. Shaun has so far gained two caps for Scotland |
