Information About

Sharpe

SharpE is an Open Source Windows graphical Shell .

SharpE replaces the default Windows shell, and allows the user to customise many aspects of it and install themes. All themes share a common interface that doesn't require the user to edit dozens of text files to customize his or her environment.

When you first install SharpE, it closes Explorer (this is the default Windows shell) and replaces it with SharpE. Each component is configurable, from its location to how it is displayed – you can even make your icons transparent if you like!

Everything is managed by SharpCore, which also hosts and controls a library of services like a custom hotkeys manager and a memory manager for more optimal system use. You can easily restore your normal Windows desktop with just a few clicks if you need to.

SharpDesk's powerful Theme Manager makes crafting a luxurious desktop a delight. Every pixel of visible space can be personalized, and the export feature makes it easy to share your masterpieces. A single theme can be customized in dozens of ways with realtime wallpaper effects, icon sets, color schemes, and custom menu content. Dynamic Desktop Objects can be saved and loaded as sets, which allows the busy user to keep his or her important desktop folders and icons constant between themes.

The SharpBar is a package of goodies all by itself, with its array of tools and toys. Included are system monitors, an rss reader, WinAmp controls, and a command line, amongst others. Plugins can be saved as sets and switched on the fly, putting a world of utility behind a few mouse clicks.

Taking up the mantle of the taskbar and system tray are SharpTask and SharpTray, which are easy to recognize for new users. SharpTray adds a useful twist to the old Explorer tray with its "Invisible Icons" function, letting you hide system tray icons you don't need to see all the time. SharpTask contains an optional "Quicklaunch" bar, like Explorer does, but also has a "Shell Folders" button for easy access to My documents, the Control Panel, and any other system specified folder you can think of.
