Shadyside is home to many of the more upscale stores and boutiques in Pittsburgh including Jake and Mabel, Coach, and William Sonoma. These stores are located in two corridors; one centers on Ellsworth, the other on Walnut. Walnut has more stores that belong to national chains, including Gap, JCrew, and United Colors of Benetton. Ellsworth tends to smaller locally owned business, including Eons (a vintage store), Gallerie Chiz (a art gallery), Club Havana. Shadyside is also home to one of Pittsburgh's premiere private parochial schools, Winchester Thurston. Another neighborhood institution is Shadyside Hospital, a member of the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center . Parking in this area is notoriously difficult. A contributing factor is difficult to navigate streets, which are mostly one way. Another problem is the compact nature of the neighborhood, which prevents most houses from having garages.
