Information About

Seganet

SegaNet was a shortlived Internet Service operated by Sega , geared for Dial-up based Online Gaming on their Dreamcast Game Console . A replacement for Sega's original, PC-only online gaming service, Heat.net , it was initially quite popular when launched on September 10 , 2000 . In August 2002 , Sega made the service free. Later that year, however, due to increasing losses caused by the Dreamcast, Sega discontinued the service—at which point all subscribers were given the option to transfer their accounts to EarthLink .

The original plan for SegaNet was that customers would sign a two-year contract and be given $ 200, enough to cover the price of a Dreamcast.
