Sean Taro Ono Lennon (aka Sean Ono Lennon, born October 9 , 1975 ) is the son of musicians and peace activists John Lennon and Yoko Ono (making Kyoko Chan Cox his half-sister). His father is of Welsh and Irish ancestry and his mother is Japanese . He was born in New York City on his father's 35th birthday. After Sean's birth, John became a House Husband , doting on his young son until his murder in 1980. His first appearance on record was on Ono's '' Season Of Glass '' in 1981, reciting a story that his father used to tell him. At the age of 9 he performed the song " It's Alright " on the 1984 Yoko Ono tribute album '' Every Man Has A Woman ''. Later in life his initial efforts as a serious musician were collaborations. He appeared on Lenny Kravitz 's 1991 album '' Mama Said '', formed backing-band IMA for his mother's 1995 album '' Rising '', and has collaborated with the New York-based Japan ese duo Cibo Matto , as well as the nu-metal band Soulfly. Through his association with Cibo Matto, he was approached by the Beastie Boys ' Adam Yauch , who expressed an interest in Sean's music. His debut solo album, '' Into The Sun '', was released in 1998 on the Beastie Boys's record label, Grand Royal Records . It garnered positive reviews. Regarding Grand Royal, Sean has said, "I think I found the only label on the planet who doesn't care who my parents are and what my name is. It's a good feeling to know that I wouldn't have gotten the offer if they wouldn't have liked my songs. That's pretty rare in the music business!" In 1999, Sean's EP '' Half Horse, Half Musician '' was released, a compilation of outtakes and remixes from ''Into The Sun''. The Japanese version contains the bonus "Into the Sun (Moog remix)". He also made a guest appearance on the underground hip-hop collaborations, Deltron 3030 , working with Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Dan Nakamura . Oddly enough, Sean's role in the song seems to be describing the realistic Hell that Earth has become, antithetical to his father's song, " Imagine ". His lyrics in the song are "Looking up the sky is red, cities burning overhead. We can make the best of it, in this post- Apocalypse ." He has also appeared on records by Handsome Boy Modeling School , Money Mark , and Ben Lee , and with musicians such as Josh Haden . Past girlfriends include Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto , Bijou Phillips , and Elizabeth Jagger (daughter of Mick Jagger ).
