Sarah Greene (born 24 October 1958 , in London , England ) is a British television presenter, probably most famous for presenting on the popular children's television show, '' Blue Peter '', from 19th May 1980 until 27th June 1983 . After leaving ''Blue Peter'', she went on to present '' Saturday Superstore '' alongside Mike Read , she then co-presented '' Going Live! '', alongside Phillip Schofield . Disaster struck for her and partner Mike Smith on 10 September 1988 , when the Helicopter Mike was piloting crashed in Gloucestershire , with Sarah on board. She broke an arm and both of her legs, though returned to present ''Going Live!'' while still in plaster. They became engaged weeks after the accident, and married in 1989 . {Link without Title} As well as presenting Sarah has also done lots of acting work in programmes such as '' Doctor Who '', '' Casualty '' and '' French & Saunders ''.
