Santiago Creel Miranda (b. 11 December 1954 ) is a Mexican politician.
He is a member of the conservative National Action Party (PAN). His sister is politician Dolores Creel Miranda .

He earned a Law Degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma De México (UNAM). His career highlights include running for Head Of Government of the Federal District in 2000 (a race he lost to Andrés Manuel López Obrador ). After that he was appointed to the cabinet by President Vicente Fox to serve as Secretary Of The Interior , a position he held from December 2000 to June 2005 .

The Interior Ministry (formally, ''Secretaría de Gobernación)'' is the most important portfolio in the cabinet. It was long a tradition for presidents to appoint their anointed successors to the job; and, although this trend has not been as pronounced under the past three presidents.

On 1 June 2005 , Creel presented Fox with his resignation in order to seek his party's candidacy for the 2006 Presidential Election . Soon after his resignation it was discovered that he authorized the opening of Gambling stores to Televisa and other business groups. He also made public his campaign expenses citing significantly low rates for spots on Televisa TV channels. An investigation is currently underway to determine the legality of the gampling permits in the Mexican Senate and the Chamber Of Deputies .

Creel's main contender for the PAN's candidacy was Felipe Calderón who won the primary elections and is the official PAN candidate for the Presidency Of Mexico . Santiago Creel is a party candidate for the Senate in the upcoming Elections . on July 2 , 2006 .
