Salmon Falls River




The Salmon Falls River is a tributary of the Piscataqua River , in the U.S. State s of Maine and New Hampshire . It rises in New Hampshire near Great East Lake, and flows south-southeast, forming approximately 28 miles (45 kilometres) of the border between Maine and New Hampshire. The Salmon Falls River joins the Cochecho River near Dover, New Hampshire to form the Piscataqua River. The river provides Hydroelectric Power at Salmon Falls and Somersworth , as well as Berwick and South Berwick, Maine .

Local Pennacook Abenaki Indians called the river ''Newichawannock'', which means either "river with many falls," or "fork or confluence of two rivers."
