(born
April 16 ,
1963 ) is a former
Pakistani Cricket er
- 1999 , who is famous for the ODI inning that he played against the Indians in Kolkata in the 1986/87 tour of Pakistan, where he pinched a famous unbelievable victory which seemed to come from nowhere. Chasing 238 in 40 overs, Pakistan were reduced to 161-5 when Salim Malik arrived at the crease. He blasted one of the best ODI innings ever with a match-winning 72 (not out) out of the remaining 77 runs and that too of just 36 deliveries and single-handedly took Pakistan to a famous 2 wicket win with 3 balls still to spare in the match.
He is also famous for his play against the spinners and particularly the sweep shot, which is known as the best in the world today.
Later, Saleem Malik was banned from International Cricket because of his involvement in match-fixing scandals. The former Pakistan skipper was reported to be heading an international match-fixing ring. A report into the match-fixing incidents, which left the cricket world reeling further claimed that Malik had allegedly promised to rig an England-Pakistan test series for £500,000 per match. He is also claimed to have said that Bangladesh's World Cup victory over Pakistan was fixed.
