Located along the lower Kennebecasis River valley, Rothesay borders the city of Saint John to the southwest, and the neighbouring town of Quispamsis to the northeast. In response to a sprawl problem (and provincial government cuts in municipal grants), several municipalities in the lower Kennebecasis River valley were amalgamated on January 1 , 1998 by the provincial government. Rothesay was selected as a candidate for amalgamation with several smaller communities, namely: Following amalgamation, the town adopted a new coat of arms which incorporates symbols of all five amalgamated communities and bears the motto ''Quinque iuncta in uno'' or "Five united in one." TRIVIA The Variable Pitch Propeller was invented in Rothesay by Canadian aviation pioneer Wallace R Turnbull. His interest in engineering began toward the end of the nineteenth century and his invention of the variable pitch propeller in 1927 revolutionized Aircraft design. EXTERNAL LINKS
