Lorelai Leigh Gilmore, better known as '''Rory''', is a Fictional Character from The WB Television Series '' Gilmore Girls '' played by Alexis Bledel . Rory was born on and Christopher Hayden . She is the great-granddaughter of yet another Lorelai Gilmore, her grandfather's mother. After a few months in her grandparents' home in Hartford, Connecticut , Lorelai took Rory and left for Stars Hollow , a small ( Fiction al) town located about a half hour away. Lorelai arrived at the Independence Inn, looking for a place to stay and a job. Mia, the owner of the inn, pitied her and hired her as a Maid . Rory and her mother lived in a potting shed in the back of the inn until they were able to afford a house in town. Within these years, Rory grew up, befriended Lane Kim , and became extremely close to her mother, often acting more like her sister than her daughter. They both love coffee and can't go a day without it. Shy and studious, Rory wasn't very popular with her peers, but the adults in the community adored (and continue to adore) her. In the first few days of her Sophomore year at Stars Hollow High , Rory received an acceptance letter to enroll in the prestigious and Fiction al Chilton Academy. In order to pay Tuition , Lorelai had to ask for the money from her estranged parents. Richard and Emily agreed to pay for Rory's Schooling but there was one string attached to the deal: Lorelai and Rory would have to come to their house every Friday night for dinner. This tradition continued after graduation as the elder Gilmores went on to pay her college tuition as well. While in high school, Rory met and fell in love with Dean Forrester and dated him for most of two seasons before breaking up with him to date 'bad boy' Jess Mariano (nephew of Luke Danes , owner of the local diner where Rory and Lorelai eat every day). This relationship did not last either, though both men carried a torch for Rory for a long time afterwards (Jess still holding that torch for Rory and Rory still holding a torch for Jess). Dean went on to get married on the rebound (straight after high school), but ultimately had an affair with Rory (during which Rory lost her virginity) leading to a quick divorce. Afterwards, Rory dated publishing heir Logan Huntzberger . After graduating Chilton, Rory went on to attend Yale University (giving up her life-long dream of attending Harvard University ), where she shared a dorm room with fellow Chilton alumna Paris Geller . She was majoring in Journalism , but temporarily dropped out of Yale after Newspaper owner Mitchum Huntzberger, father of Logan, told her that she doesn't have what it takes to make it as a journalist. During her break from Yale, she lived with her grandparents and was required to do community service after stealing a yacht as a prank. As a result of her dropping out (and the yacht stealing), a rift developed between Rory and her mother (it actually had been in progress since the end of the fourth season, although was subdued throughout the fifth season). The once best-known mother-daughter duo were now at each others' throats. She eventually returned to Yale and to her mother, but the damage had already been done. The two are still not getting along with each other, and her relationship with her grandparents has also soured. All of this culminated into one of thier Friday night dinners deteriorating into a shoutfest and a drinking binge. Rory also talked her way into a job at Huntzberger's newspaper (a storyline that has been quietly dropped) and took a break from Logan due to his behavior during a visit from Jess. Rory and Logan reunited and moved in together, prompted by Paris angrily kicking her out of their apartment because Rory replaced her as editor of the ''Yale Daily News''. Most recently, Rory moved out of Logan's apartment because he cheated on her (when they were 'broken up') with some of his sister's friends. She returned to him, but has not yet fully forgiven him. During a visit to Jess in Philadelphia, she solemnly confided to him that she was still with Logan. Furthermore, Rory's attitude and even her appearance have changed considerably. People now see her as conceited, selfish, and rude. |
