(born
1 March 1980 ) is a
Fictional Character in
J.K. Rowling 's ''
Harry Potter '' series of books. He is portrayed by
Rupert Grint in the films (four so far).
Ron's best friends at
Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry are
Harry Potter and
Hermione Granger .
Ron was born to
Arthur Weasley and
Molly Prewett Weasley , members of an old and well-known
Pure-blood Wizarding family. Ron is the sixth of seven children, and is the youngest
Son . Ron grew up in
The Burrow , near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole in
Devon . Ron has five older brothers,
Bill ,
Charlie ,
Percy , twins
Fred and
George , and a little sister,
Ginny .
Most of his fellow
Gryffindor s and other friendly students call him "Ron," with the exception of his Ravenclaw friend
Luna Lovegood , who calls him by his full name, and
Lavender Brown , who briefly used the endearment "Won-Won" while they were dating. His brothers,
Fred And George jokingly refer to him as "ickle Ronniekins" in the first book.
Draco Malfoy and other less-than-friendly students from rival
Hogwarts Houses generally call him by his surname.
Dobby the
House-elf referred to him once as "Wheezy."
At the beginning of the series, Mr. Weasley is head of the
Misuse Of Muggle Artifacts Office , a minor division in the
Ministry Of Magic's Department Of Magical Law Enforcement . This is an impressive sounding position, but one which barely earns Mr. Weasley enough to support his large family. Throughout the series, Ron is very self-conscious and frustrated by his family's
Poverty , especially as his enemies at school taunt him for his lack of money and insult his parents and siblings. Despite their lack of money, Ron has caring, responsible parents who raise the Weasley children with love and all the right values. Although his older brothers - especially the twins - like to tease Ron, they are protective of him as well. In fact, Ron has such a closeknit family that he is lucky in ways he may not realize. In this respect he plays a foil to
Harry , who is wealthy (in the Wizarding world, at least) but who lives with an uncaring aunt and uncle.
Ron has the trademark flaming red hair of the
Weasleys and blue eyes. He is described as being tall, thin and gangly, with freckles, a long nose and big hands and feet.
Ron's older brothers have each excelled in various ways; Ron sometimes feels lost in the shadow of their accomplishments and has a great desire to be noticed in his own right. On their very first train ride to Hogwarts at the age of eleven, Ron told Harry how he felt:
''"I'm the sixth in our family to go to Hogwarts. You could say I've got a lot to live up to. Bill and Charlie have already left -- Bill was Head Boy and Charlie was captain of Quidditch. Now Percy's a prefect. Fred and George mess around a lot, but they still get really good marks and everyone thinks they're really funny. Everyone expects me to do as well as the others, but if I do, it's no big deal, because they did it first. You never get anything new, either, with five brothers. I've got Bill's old robes, Charlie's old wand, and Percy's old rat."''
- Ron Weasley, ''Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone''
When given the opportunity, Ron basks in the glow of the spotlight. It can be seen that Ron's craving for recognition can cause him to have arguments with Harry and Hermione, when he feels that he is sidestepped by others in front of his best friends. Here, it sometimes seems that not only is Ron overshadowed by his brothers, but also by his friends. Hermione is brilliant and is one of the best students in the school; Harry is an excellent Quidditch player on the House team, extremely famous and relatively wealthy. Ironically, Ron is the only one out of his trio of friends who has limited experience with the muggle world, giving him an attitude towards muggle customs and devices similiar (though not nearly as severe) to his hated classmate, Draco Malfoy. Ultimately, however, Ron's loyalty and dedication towards his two best friends is unquestionable.
As he grows older, Ron begins to reveal his own abilities as he is made a prefect, and also gets chosen as the
Quidditch Keeper for Gryffindor (as Harry is the captain of the Quidditch team at this time, other candidates accuse Harry of favoritism; as time goes by, Ron proves his worth as a Keeper and no more is said of Harry playing favorites). This seems to give him credit as the secondary hero in such stories like
Sam Gamgee in ''
The Lord Of The Rings '' and
Han Solo in ''
Star Wars ''. Ron is an excellent chess player and usually beats his best friends at Wizard's Chess. He can be an outstanding Keeper, but his skills are sometimes adversely affected due to nervousness and lack of confidence at performing in front of a large crowd.
Ron has a sardonic, wisecracking sense of humour and his comments, though usually hilarious, can occasionally offend or insult others. Ron can be very clueless at times about what is going on, especially with girls. At times Ron, affable though he is, can appear to be the most emotional and impulsive of the trio, often going with what his feelings dictate any given moment as opposed to thinking things through. That, in addition to his sometimes apparent insensitivity to the feelings of others, has unfortunately cast him as something of an oaf in the eyes of some. However, Ron is generally very good-natured and dependable.
Even though he may act as though he dislikes some of his possessions, he can actually be quite fond of them (for instance, his former pet rat Scabbers and his owl Pigwidgeon). Ron also seems to have a growing romantic interest in Hermione, which was hinted at in the third and fourth books, and was very prevalent in the sixth book.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone ''.]]
Ron begins
Hogwarts at age eleven. Ron and
Harry first meet while Harry is searching for Platform 9¾ at
King's Cross . They share a compartment on the
Hogwarts Express , and share some anxiety about their imagined first-year experiences. It is here that they also meet Hermione Granger.
Ron and Harry are sorted into
Gryffindor House , where they share a
Dormitory with
Neville Longbottom ,
Seamus Finnigan and
Dean Thomas . The two share the same classes throughout the series, and generally have the same academic successes and disappointments, though Harry is considered somewhat smarter than Ron.
Although Ron and Harry initially dislike Hermione for her bossy know-it-all demeanor, the three become friends shortly after the beginning of the first year. While Hermione is crying in the girls'
Bathroom due to a rather unpleasant remark by Ron,
Professor Quirrell reports a
Troll in the school. At Harry's instigation, they rush off to warn Hermione, but unknowingly shut the troll in the very bathroom she is occupying. They enter the room, and Ron knocks out the troll with a spell Hermione had helped him practice. She, in turn, lies to protect the boys when several of the faculty confront them about this reckless behaviour, much to their amazement and admiration - this incident draws the three together and they become inseparable friends. The three have agreements, arguments, and adventures throughout their first year. While viewing the
Mirror Of Erised , Ron sees himself as
Head Boy and captain of the
Quidditch team.
Ron plays a vital part in the
Quest to save the
Philosopher's Stone . His talent at
Wizard's Chess allows Hermione and Harry to proceed through a dangerous life-size, animated
Chess game. During the course of the game, Ron, who plays as a knight (pictured above riding the knight's steed), allows himself to be captured and knocked unconscious so that his friends can go on to save the Stone. At the Leaving Feast, the last dinner of the school year,
Dumbledore awards Ron fifty points to Gryffindor for "the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years."
In the summer before
His Second Year , Ron attempts to write
Harry several times, but receives no reply (Harry's owl has been kept in a cage by his relatives). He becomes concerned enough that he convinces
Fred And George to fly their father's enchanted
Ford Anglia and rescue Harry. They complete the mission successfully, but the Weasleys are heartily berated by their mother when they return, although their father is very impressed.
After
Dobby The House-elf prevents Ron and Harry from entering Platform 9¾, Ron conceives the idea of taking the family's flying Ford Anglia and using it to fly to
Hogwarts . They are nearly successful but the Anglia lost power just at the end of the trip and went crashing into the
Whomping Willow . Ron's
Wand , a hand-me-down from his brother
Charlie , is broken in the collision. He mends it with
Spellotape , which keeps it together but does not prevent it from malfunctioning unpredictably for the rest of the year. Ron receives a
Howler from his mother regarding the trip.
''.]]
Ron, Harry, and Hermione discover that the
Chamber Of Secrets has been opened by the
Heir of
Slytherin . Suspecting their old enemy
Draco Malfoy , they transform themselves using
Polyjuice Potion to turn into the likenesses of Malfoy's close associates
Vincent Crabbe and
Gregory Goyle .
Ron is present at a confrontation between
Draco and
Hermione , during which Draco calls Hermione a "
Mudblood ." Extremely insulted on Hermione's behalf, Ron tries to cast a curse on Draco, but instead, his broken wand malfunctions causing himself to be hit with a spell that causes him to vomit up slugs.
Ron is responsible for providing the first clue to the identity of Tom Marvolo Riddle. After Harry discovers the name on
Tom Riddle's Diary , Ron recalls that he saw the name "T.M. Riddle" on a
Trophy inscribed "For Special Services To The School." He remembers it so clearly because it was a trophy he had burped slugs on.
During the hunt to find the Heir of Slytherin Ron is forced to come face to face with his biggest fear, spiders. Hagrid leaves Ron and Harry a clue to follow the spiders leading Ron to a very traumatic event for him.
When Ron finds that his sister
Ginny has been abducted and taken to the Chamber of Secrets where she may be left to die, he is desperately upset, as are his brothers and Harry. He and Harry discover that the way into the Chamber lies through the bathroom haunted by
Moaning Myrtle . They enter the bathroom with
Professor Lockhart , who has been volunteered to rescue Ginny and kill the
Basilisk residing in the Chamber. When the three enter the tunnels leading to the Chamber, Professor Lockhart attempts to perform a
Memory Charm on them using Ron's wand. The wand backfires, casting the spell on Lockhart instead, and caving in the ceiling. Ron is trapped on one side and is forced to wait for Harry, and try to shift rocks so he can get back through. Harry goes on to rescue Ginny and defeat the memory of Tom Riddle. Ron is elated when Harry returns with Ginny, and the two boys take her to the Headmaster's office where Mr. and Mrs. Weasley are being told their daughter is dead.
In ''
Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban '', Ron's old pet rat Scabbers goes missing, and he blames it on
Hermione's new cat
Crookshanks . He is convinced Crookshanks has it in for Scabbers. They have a falling out over this. Earlier, because she believed it to be jinxed, Hermione tells Professor McGonagall about Harry's mysterious Christmas present, the glorious
Firebolt , leading to its confiscation. This perceived betrayal makes Ron and Harry angry. They eventually make up and Ron offers to help with the preparation of
Buckbeak 's defence for Hagrid after Hermione has a nervous breakdown.
''.]]
Harry, Ron and Hermione then go to see Hagrid on the execution day. In the movie, Hermione puts her arms around Ron and begins to cry as Ron puts his arm around her in order to comfort her in an obvious show of affection. But later as they try to leave quickly, Ron's rat
Scabbers bites him and runs off. Ron chases him to the Whomping Willow. A huge black dog comes out of nowhere and drags Ron into the tunnel under the Whomping Willow that leads to the Shrieking Shack. Harry and Hermione follow after battling the Whomping Willow and the dog turns out to be the
Animagus form of
Sirius Black , an alleged murderer who has just broken out of the wizard prison Azkaban, and who is Harry's godfather.
Professor Lupin arrives just after Harry and Hermione in the Shrieking Shack, and along with Sirius, Lupin casts a spell on Scabbers, who also turns out to be an
Animagus by the name of
Peter Pettigrew , a former friend of the two men, but now a servant of
Lord Voldemort who gave his master information about where to find Harry's hidden parents
James And Lily Potter , thus bringing about their death.
During Harry's confrontation with then-supposed-murderer Black, Ron declares while trying to stand on his broken leg, "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" (This line shows Ron's steadfast loyalty and his true Gryffindor spirit, yet it is attributed to Hermione in the film). Sirius tries to tell them he is actually innocent, and that Scabbers was actually the Animagus form of
Peter Pettigrew . Ron is reluctant at first to believe Sirius, refusing to turn in Scabbers, but is disgusted when he learns his true identity. When Lupin turns into a werewolf under the full moon, Pettigrew attacks Ron and escapes. Ron is taken to the hospital wing while Harry and Hermione go back in time, using Hermione's Time Turner, to try to save Sirius. Sirius gives Ron an excitable little owl in compensation for Scabbers. Ron lets Crookshanks smell him before agreeing to keep him. Ginny later names the owl
Pigwidgeon , much to Ron's annoyance. Thereafter Ron refers to the owl as "Pig."
In ''
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire '', Ron, along with his father and twin brothers, travel to the
Dursley's home to pick up Harry by
Floo Powder ; but the Dursley's "fireplace" is a boarded-up electric furnace, so the Weasley's are trapped momentarily. After a short but amusing adventure at the confused Dursley's, the Weasley's leave with Harry, so that he can stay with them for the remainder of the summer, and go to the
Quidditch World Cup . Hermione joins Harry and the Weasley family at the World Cup, where Ron gets to see his favourite Quidditch player, the famous
Viktor Krum . Ron is even more excited when Krum comes to Hogwarts to take part in the
Triwizard Tournament .
''.]]
When the task of finding a date to the
Yule Ball arrives, Ron loses his head and asks the very attractive part-
Veela Fleur Delacour , whom he has an irresistible crush on. She refuses, and Hermione already had a date, so Ron ends up taking
Padma Patil , whilst Harry takes Padma's twin sister and fellow Gryffindor
Parvati . Ron is distraught over his horribly aged secondhand dress robes, and things get worse as Ron finds out that Hermione's date for the
Yule Ball is Viktor Krum, and Ron becomes overcome with jealousy. At the end of the night, the two of them have a heated row that ends with Hermione proclaiming, "Next time there's a ball, ask me before someone else does, and not as a last resort!" (His jealousy also leads him to ignore his actual albeit reluctant date, Padma.)
After Harry is selected to take part in the Tournament, Ron and Harry have a massive falling out. They don't speak for weeks, as Ron thinks Harry put his name in the Goblet, or had someone else do it, on purpose. This reflects Ron's growing frustration about his family situation (lack of money for purchasing nice new things) and his insecurity about being constantly overshadowed by his brothers and his closest friends. Ron even asked Harry why every thing he owned is rubbish. Eventually Ron and Harry realise they miss each other greatly, and reconcile shortly after Harry successfully completes the first task and Ron realizes how dangerous the Tournament is. In fact, in
The Second Task , Ron is the person selected for Harry to rescue, as he represents the one who Harry would miss the most. Ron is put in an enchanted sleep to await rescue, from the underwater
Merpeople , at the bottom of the lake at Hogwarts.
In ''
Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix '', Ron becomes a
Gryffindor prefect, much to the surprise of himself and his family and friends. When the trio return to Hogwarts for their fifth year, Harry finds himself shunned and gossiped about by many due to his claim that Voldemort has returned. Ron explicitly shows his support and loyalty for Harry when his classmates imply Harry is lying about the return of Voldemort, sometimes using his power as prefect to threaten them into silence. In this way Ron and Hermione (both prefects) do their best to protect Harry throughout the novel. Yet in many ways the book marks a notable decline in Ron's role as Harry's closest friend, with Hermione taking his place in many respects.
He also becomes Keeper of the Gryffindor
Quidditch team. Though not initially successful, he later overcomes his fear of performing in front of others to secure the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor. Draco Malfoy and the Slytherins don't help things early on, when they invent the song 'Weasley Is Our King', with several verses regarding Ron's Keeping abilities and his family's financial position, to mock him. However, after helping the Gryffindor team to win the Quidditch Cup while Harry was banned by Professor
Umbridge from playing, the Gryffindors adopt the song as well, but change the words to be in praise of Ronald.
In the meantime, throughout the book Ron continues to dance around his feelings towards Hermione. Though they spend their usual amount of time bickering with each other, Ron and Hermione put up a united front in endorsement of Harry (and sometimes against him). Ron supports Hermione's suggestion of Harry teaching them practical Defence Against the Dark Arts, and later helps founding the secret students' group called
Dumbledore's Army . Book five also sees the advent of
Luna Lovegood , who seems to harbour at least some interest in Ron, although it is not entirely clear what her feelings are. Ron at best reciprocates only friendship towards her.
Later on in the book, Ron battles the Death Eaters alongside Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Luna and
Neville at the
Department Of Mysteries . He is injured in the fight, during which he is attacked by a brain. Later, he makes a full recovery. It is revealed at the end of the book that Ron was made prefect simply because Dumbledore assumed Harry had too much stress going on in his life to put up with being prefect.
Ron receives his
O.W.L. grades, along with Harry and Hermione. He gets seven O.W.L.s and only fails
History Of Magic and
Divination , but he receives no 'Outstandings'. Harry and Ron's friendship has greatly matured and the strength of their friendship is emphasized at many instances throughout the book, with each coming forward to the other's aid at crucial times. There is a much greater level of understanding between the two, which is evident from their interactions.
At Hogwarts, Ron, who has grown ever taller over the summer, attracts the attention of
Lavender Brown by making a characteristically funny remark. Harry, as the new Quidditch Captain, picks Ron as Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, much to
Cormac McLaggen 's dismay. Because he had made derisive comments about Ron and Ginny, Hermione puts a confusion spell on Cormac, leading to him performing poorly and narrowly losing the try-out to Ron.
During a Herbology lesson, Hermione angrily reveals her intention of asking Ron to
Professor Slughorn 's Christmas party as her guest after he bitterly mocks her about being a favorite of Slughorn's. Following this announcement, a pleased Ron tones down his attitude towards her.
However, right after a Quidditch practice, Ron and Harry, while using a shortcut to return to Gryffindor Tower, inadvertently stumble onto Ginny and Dean Thomas, their fellow Gryffindor and temporary teammate (substituting for
Katie Bell ) kissing fiercely. Ron is outraged about his sister '
Snogging people in public', causing a heated argument between the siblings and, consequently, stemming from their argument, he comes to know that Hermione had kissed Viktor Krum and this causes a major lack of concentration for a jealous Ron. Ron begins to act very surly and contemptuous towards Hermione, leaving a hurt and bewildered Hermione deeply upset. Also, he performs badly at the Quidditch practice, and offers his resignation as Keeper, which Harry turns down.
In order to reverse the situation, Harry pretends to dip
Felix Felicis , the "luck potion", into Ron's breakfast juice, and as circumstances will, their next match against Slytherin turns out to be optimal since Ron, believing he has taken the luck potion, overcomes his usual lack of self-esteem and performs admirably. However, in the aftermath, Hermione and Ron have a falling-out because Hermione accuses Harry of helping Ron to cheat, until Harry tells the truth, and a now over-confident Ron rounds on her for having no trust in his abilities. Later in the Gryffindor common room, Ron is witnessed passionately kissing Lavender, leaving an already embittered Hermione visibly hurt and jealous.
This whole saga seems to indicate that Ron's emotional maturity lags behind his years. In regards to the subject Rowling has said, "Ron up to this point has been quite immature compared to the other two and he kind of needed to make himself worthy of Hermione. Now, that didn't mean necessarily physical experience but he had to grow up emotionally and now he's taken a big step up."
After Christmas, Hermione continues to ignore Ron, stopping only to give him looks of disdain and throwing the occasional snide remark. By now, Ron is visibly growing discontented with his relationship with Lavender. On his birthday, Ron is accidentally poisoned in Professor Slughorn's office. Harry quickly saves Ron's life by forcing a bezoar into his mouth. Ron is transferred to the hospital wing, where a panic-stricken Hermione shows up, and the two are quietly reconciled. During his time in the hospital wing Ron's (possibly subconsious) feelings towards Hermione are revealed as he murmurs "Er-my-nee" whilst asleep.
Ron suggests Harry take the aid of Felix Felicis so that he can extract the missing memory from Slughorn. Ron and Lavender break up, much to Ron's relief. According to Ron, aside from the kissing, there was not much to the relationship. Ron resignedly accepts Harry and Ginny's relationship when they end up together.
Initially, Ron does not support Harry's belief that
Draco Malfoy became a
Death Eater , but later on he becomes convinced. In the fateful night when Harry and
Dumbledore leave Hogwarts to recover a
Horcrux , Harry voices his fears that Malfoy could use Dumbledore's absence to launch an attack. He arranges for Ron, Hermione, and Ginny - together with any of
Dumbledore's Army they could summon - to keep a close watch on Malfoy and Snape. Harry also provides them with his
Felix Felicis , to aid them in the effort. Despite the D.A.'s watch, Malfoy escapes and gives the Death Eaters entrance into Hogwarts, and the
Battle Of Hogwarts ensues. The D.A., along with several members of the
Order Of The Phoenix , find themselves locked in heavy combat with the Death Eaters; but Ron, Hermione, and Ginny were unharmed by any of the Death Eater's hexes, due to the protection of the luck potion.
During Dumbledore's funeral, it is Ron who comforts a weeping Hermione. After the funeral, the school is set to close and Ron, along with Hermione, makes a vow to stay with Harry, to help him find and destroy the
Horcruxes and kill
Voldemort himself, even if it means leaving Hogwarts in the process. The reaffirmation of their loyalty to Harry follows a year when the strong bonds between the three were thoroughly tested. This gesture along with Harry’s approaching 17th birthday (the age of adulthood in the wizarding world), and an implied lack of Hogwarts in the final book are all symbolic of the end of any vestige of childhood innocence which still remained in each of the characters such that they are finally ready to face Voldemort, together.
Along with Hermione, he is expected to assist Harry in his mission to destroy Voldemort's horcruxes.
- A Shooting Star, an ancient and inexpensive racing broom that is noted for its incredible slowness. (the broom wasn't always so slow - it loses speed with age)
- A Cleansweep Eleven, which Ron receives in ''The Order of the Phoenix'' as a reward for being made a prefect. This appears to be the latest model from the Cleansweep series, and the broom performs well in Quidditch matches.
- Pigwidgeon, Ron's tiny owl, was given as a present from Sirius Black as a replacement for Scabbers
- A Wizard's Chess Set , including animated chessmen inherited from his grandfather; Ron is a skilled player and is intimately acquainted with his chessmen, and so they trust him implicitly.
- Special Award for Services to the School (an award that Harry also received) for finding the Chamber of Secrets (Harry then killed a basilisk and rescued Ron's sister from the Chamber)
- A rare collectible figure of the famous Bulgarian Quidditch Seeker Viktor Krum . Ron subsequently broke an arm of this figure in a fit of jealousy - Hermione was dating Krum at the time, and Ron didn't like that.
- An old Wand – Ron inherits Charlie Weasley 's old, chipped wand, which has a unicorn hair sticking out of the end. He holds the wand together with Spellotape after nearly breaking it in half, but it malfunctions dreadfully after this, backfiring spells, making strange noises, and emitting objects out from the wrong end.
- A New Wand – Fourteen inches, willow (same wood as Harry's mother's wand), and unicorn hair.
As Of 2005 ,
Rupert Grint plays Ron in the four released Harry Potter films. Though Ron ''is'' a humourous character in the books, in the films his role seems primarily geared towards providing
Comic Relief , more so than it is in the novels. This is especially evident in ''
Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets '', which features Ron as an archetypical
Sidekick . Though in the novels, Ron's humour tends to come from his often sarcastic wit and offbeat comments on situations, most of his comedy in the second movie came from wimpering and gurning.
In the third film, ''
Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban '', Ron's role is further decreased. In the original novel, Ron's role was fairly small, but the film-makers created several gags involving Ron, who is often portrayed as puerile and dimwitted, in contrast to Harry and Hermione, who are presented as sharper and more adventurous. Ron's character has been denied some of his canon strength, a line being attributed to Hermione (see ''
Prisoner Of Azkaban '' section) - the Hermione in the films is often made out to be far more gifted and far more important than Ron, especially to Harry, and has several times seemed to have been elevated above her canon position as the "second sidekick". Some fans feel that this hurts Ron's friendship with Harry, and disrupts the balance of his burgeoning romantic relationship with Hermione, since at times he is presented as a bumbling idiot and a coward not worthy of their friendship. He also sides with Snape when Snape calls Hermione an insufferable know it all, whereas in the book he vocally defended Hermione from Snape's insult; this annoyed many fans, since in the books, it is somewhat out-of-character for Ron to agree with Snape about anything - let alone insulting one of Ron's best friends, particularly the one for whom he is meant to have romantic feelings.
In the fourth film, ''
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire '', Ron seemed to gain some ground as Harry's main friend, since it would be impossible for the storyline to alter the fact that it is he whom Harry must rescue in the Second Task - indeed, Ron seems to take a more prominent role in this film than Hermione. However, the quarrel between Harry and Ron was resolved in a rather confusing way, since it was implied that Ron knew about the dragons before the First Task and tried to warn Harry about them, whereas in the book, it is the shock of seeing the dragons that convinces Ron that Harry would never have entered the contest of his own free will, which is so powerful, Ron makes up with Harry. This reflects badly on Ron's character, though admittedly he did try to warn Harry. There was more comedy in the Yule Ball, although Ron's famous quarrel with Hermione about going to the ball with Krum (referred to among fans as "the Yule Brawl") was slightly cut short. Nevertheless, the point that Ron was jealous of Krum was made, and the film showed Harry, Hermione and Ron as more of a trio than the previous two films.
- Ron's Patronus is a Jack Russell Terrier ; J.K. Rowling claims this is a sentimental choice because she also owns a Jack Russell. {Link without Title}
- Ron is Arachnophobic , stemming from one of his childhood incidents in which Fred turned his teddy bear into a giant Spider . Incidentally, Rupert Grint, who portrays Ron in the films is also arachnophobic.
- Ron's birthday is noted as 1 March 1980.
- In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Professor Slughorn mistakenly calls Ron "Rupert." As his film portrayer is named Rupert Grint , this could be seen as a joke on the part of The Author .
- In the early stages of making the Harry Potter books, Ron's surname was the only one among the trio which JK never decided to change. JK has stated that Ron has been "Weasley from start to finish".
- Ron's favorite Quidditch team is the Chudley Cannons, although they have not won the cup since 1892. This explains why his room is painted bright orange, because that is the team's color.
