Information About

Roland Jp-8000

The Roland JP-8000 is a virtual analog Synthesizer (VA synthesizer), made by the Roland Corporation that has 8-voice polyphony. It aims to Digitally emulate the classic Synthesizer s of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

OVERVIEW

The JP-8000 was released in 1997 , about the same time as many other VA synthesizers, like the Access Virus , Novation Supernova, and Clavia Nord Lead .

The JP-8000 was especially good at being "analog" compared to the other VA synthesizers, but had one key feature that none of the others had: two of the oscillators on the JP-8000 had two new types of Subtractive Synthesis waveforms not featured on any VA synthesizer before. These two special oscillators were the Feedback Oscillator and the SuperSaw (7 detuned sawtooth oscillators). The JP-8000 could create lush electronic sounds and pads never heard before in the analog world, with these unique oscillators. The "SuperSaw" specifically has had a huge impact on the zeitgeist of popular Trance , with many artists using the waveform extensively. Some of the more notable popular artists include Ferry Corsten , Eloy Fritsch , Paul Van Dyk , Astrix , and BT . The Access Virus TI has recently attempted to outdo the original "SuperSaw" with it's "HyperSaw" (9 parrellel sawtooth oscillators).

The characteristics of the JP-8000 appeal to those who produce trance and various sub-genres or are a little bit more creative in terms of non-genre specific developments in music and soundscape architecture.

Many Software Synthesizer s have been trying to emulate the special sound of the JP-8000. The SuperWave P8 is considered one of the most popular. Many critics argue, despite that fact that one will never be able to truly reproduce JP-8000's ''Super Saw''.

In 1998 Roland presented a 19" rack version of JP-8000. Comparing JP-8080 to his older brother, the same analog modelling sound engine was endorsed with additional features, like internal vocoder or MIDI-Thru function. The plastic body of JP-8000 was replaced with a harder metallic rack case of the JP-8080.
