He graduated from Crookston Central High School, in northern Minnesota . He received his college degree from Mayville State College in North Dakota. He taught math and coached wrestling before running for Minnesota State Senate. He was elected to the State Senate in 1970, and as the DFL majority leader in 1981. After running as Skip Humphrey's Lt. Governor against Jesse Ventura in 1998, he ran for Governor against Tim Pawlenty , Tim Penny , and Ken Pentel in 2002. Pawlenty won that election. Moe and Julie Sabo , his running mate, received 36% in the general election, while Tim Pawlenty received 44%. He has since retired from public office, and currently resides at his home in Erskine, Minnesota . ELECTORAL HISTORY
