The three glass units were built in 1924, 1928, and 1932. In 1977 they were renovated to form seven individual houses, and in 1980 were dedicated to the late Roger Clapp, longtime University Horticulture professor. About 20% of the greenhouse space is open to the public. The remainder is used for research and teaching by the departments of Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences; Plant Biology and Pathology; and Entomology . The greenhouses contain over 200 species of tropical and desert plant species from throughout the world, including a Banana plant and an extensive collection of Cacti and Succulents . The Lyle E. Littlefield Ornamentals Trial Garden , the University's outdoor research garden, is located nearby on the same campus. SEE ALSO |
