He previously served as an aide to U.S. Representative John Paul Hammerschmidt (R-AR), and later as Director of Policy Planning and Research for Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR). In 2000, he left Arkansas for Silicon Valley , where he served as Special Counsel to PayPal founder Peter Thiel , most notably during its IPO and subsequent Merger with Dot-com giant EBay . A promoter of Free Market solutions to many global problems, he has been active in support of School Choice , raising significant sums of money for private K-12 scholarships for disadvantaged children, and serves on the Board of Governors of Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership ( HOBY ). He has also spoken nationally for adoption of the Flat Tax and of Private Social Security Accounts , and in favor of President George W. Bush 's Foreign Policy .
