It is a place where humanoid Cylons are downloaded into new bodies if they are killed too far from the Cylon homeworld. Adama and Cain believe that if they destroy this ship, the Cylons may be more reluctant to pursue them. Cain tasks Starbuck with planning an attack on the Cylon ship, and Starbuck, in turn, requests help from Capt. Apollo . Laura, realizing Cain's true nature, predicts that Cain will assassinate Adama and then destroy or abandon the civilian fleet. She urges Adama to strike against Cain first. Col. Tigh learns from Col. Fisk that ''Pegasus'' did in fact, have a small civilian fleet of its own, and that Cain stripped the ships for spare parts, press-ganged its useful civilian personnel into the military, and then abandoned the rest. Realizing that Roslin is right about Cain, Adama asks Starbuck to assassinate her when the Cylon attack is concluded. Simultaneously, Cain directs Fisk to take a contingent of loyal marines and likewise "terminate" Adama's command once the Cylon strike is over. Part 2 The battle begins as the '' Galactica '' and ''Pegasus'' attack the Cylon Resurrection Ship and the two Basestars that defend it. During the battle, Apollo takes the '' Blackbird '' and knocks out the FTL drive of the main target, but afterward he collides with a Colonial Raptor and is forced to eject into space. He quickly discovers that there's a pin-hole leak in his flightsuit and that he's almost out of oxygen. Realizing he will be unable to get back in time to help Starbuck's assassination attempt on Admiral Cain, Apollo "gives up" and wishes to die. Aboard ''Pegasus'', Gina asks Baltar to kill her, but instead, he arranges to help her escape. Meanwhile, aboard ''Galactica'', Col. Fisk anxiously awaits the call for the order to commence his marine raid on the bridge and terminate Adama's command. Simultaneously, in the ''Pegasus'' CIC, Starbuck awaits Adama's coded order to kill Cain. The calls are made, and congratulations are given, but neither Adama nor Cain can bring themselves to order the other's assassination. Apollo is rescued and revived, but he returns to the ''Galactica'' with a changed state of mind and confides to Starbuck that he really wanted to die. As Admiral Cain retires to her quarters, she finds Gina waiting for her and is killed with a shot to the head. Gina then disappears into hiding. Afterward, everyone assembles for Cain's funeral. Helo and Tyrol are moved to ''Galactica's'' brig where they reunite with Boomer. Col. Fisk succeeds Cain as commander of the ''Pegasus'', reporting to Adama as overall military leader. Recognising Adama's increased responsibilities in commanding both Battlestars, President Roslin promotes Adama to the the rank of Admiral. |
