Information About

Registered Training Organisation

Some registered training organisations, most usually Technical And Further Education Institutes, are owned and operated by the various State And Territory governments. However, numerous private training organisations also offer similar vocational courses as the TAFEs, and together they form a sizable component of the vocational education and training system. These private organisations often offer training for a single industry, e.g. Childcare .

The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) has set twelve standards with which training organisations must comply to become registered training organisations. These form the 'ground rules' and details of the quality systems that must be established before any organisation may operate as a registered training organisation. These standards were approved by federal, state and territory Ministers on 8 June 2001 and nationally reviewed in 2004 and 2005.

To be approved for registration, organisations need documentary evidence of how their training organisation is meeting the AQTF standards. In order to maintain registration, organisations must comply with the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act of 2000 and the policies and guidelines of the Training and Employment Recognition Council.

Audits form an important part of improving the quality and integrity of vocational education and training. They are carried out by ausitors, usually from the relevant state government department responsible for Vocational Education and Training. During the course of registration, organisations may be audited to ensure that they are continuously meeting the Australian Quality Training Framework standards.
