Raja Sansi International Airport is 11 km north-west from the city of Amritsar , India . The airport serves not only the city of Amritsar , but also the greater Punjabi area, including the city of Jalandhar . As a government designated International Airport , the airport currently handles about 55 commercial flights a week, both international and domestic. EXPANSION AND RENOVATION The city of Amritsar has long remained the cultural and tourist capital of Punjab , and the demand for a fully operational international airport has increased in recent years. A newly finished arrivals terminal was innagurated in September of 2005, and finished departures terminal will be expected to be inaugrated by the end of March 2006. Major carriers that have expressed interest in operating from Amritsar in the near future include Gulf Air , Jet Airways , Thai Airways International , Air India Express , and British Airways . In July 2006, Jet Airways will begin direct services from Raja Sansi to {Link without Title} , non-stop after Birmingham. In June 2006, Air India Express will launch flights from Amritsar to Dubai.
