Ragdoll (comics)

PETER MERKEL

Ragdoll's real name is Peter Merkel. A burglar in Jay "Flash" Garrick's hometown of Keystone City , he had an enviable edge in his possession of a "triple jointed skeleton." He was a Contortionist , able to fit into very small places and enter seemingly impregnable ones. Purportedly his body was so yielding that he could "even absorb the force of a small explosion" - he once detonated a nearby bomb to defeat the Flash. He was a member of one incarnation of the Secret Society Of Super Villains organized by the Ultra-Humanite .

In Robinson's ''Starman'' it was revealed that, at some point between his original appearances and the present, Ragdoll became a cult leader, running a small army of the disposessed. When he was stopped by members of the Justice Society Of America , including Garrick and Ted "Starman" Knight , he threatened to use his followers to attack the heroes' families, before slipping out of his bonds. It was thought (but never confirmed) that Knight killed him to protect his sons.

Whatever happened, Ragdoll survived, and in the modern age, an aged and injured Merkel was given his youth as the result of a deal with the demon Neron . He moved to Opal City , home of Jack Knight, and has occasionally caused trouble there. He has also worked with the modern incarnation of the Injustice Society .

Knight has also squared off against a mentally unbalanced impostor named Colby Zag.

Merkel died while in mission with the Injustice Society (''JSA Classified'' #7).

SON OF PETER

A new Ragdoll was featured in the '' Villains United '' miniseries, as a member of a small group calling themselves the " Secret Six " who hoped to rival the new Secret Society Of Super Villains . In Issue #3 it was revealed he is the son of the original Ragdoll (no first name given) and was born a normal baby. To please his father he underwent surgery to implant lubricated cybernetic joints that let him emulate his father's physique. The surgery left him badly disfigured and requiring regular doses of an Emollient to lubricate his skin - otherwise his bones will literally cut through his brittle flesh. He also had surgically removed parts of his body that "bother". He had formed a bond with Parademon .

OTHER MEDIA

The Ragdoll has appeared on '' The Batman ,'' voiced by Jeff Bennett . He first appeared in the second-season episode "Ragdoll to Riches", as a rival thief to the Catwoman .
