As is the case with other Ontario municipalites which adopted new names following restructuring, the new "Quinte West" name is generally not recognized outside of the immediate area. As of 2006, there has been discussion regarding renaming the municipality to something more familiar, possibly "Greater Trenton". According to the Canada 2001 Census :
