Queen Anne Stakes




First run in 1840 as the Trial Stakes, the name was changed in 1930 to commemorate Queen Anne , the monarch who established racing at Ascot in 1711 .

With the introduction of the Pattern system in 1971 the race was given Group 3 status, which was upgraded to Group 2 in 1984, and to Group 1 in 2003. Due to redevelopment at Ascot, the 2005 race took place at York Racecourse .
