The song has often been played live and originally started out with completely different lyrics and a slightly different bassline under the name "Cold Colours." This early version is featured on the Deluxe Edition of Faith as a studio demo. Live versions of Cold Colours were played near the end of the Seventeen Seconds tour in 1980 .
