The Play-Yan is a media player for the Game Boy Advance . It uses SD Flash Memory to play MP3 audio files and ASF / MPEG-4 video files. It can also play 13 bonus mini-games which were released to ClubNintendo members in Japan . It is designed for the Game Boy Advance SP and also compatible with the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Micro , but due to its power requirement, use with an original Game Boy Advance system is not recommended. Sales of the Play-Yan were discontinued on September 11, 2005. Its successor, the '''Play-Yan Micro''', was released two days later. Play-Yan was released in China by IQue under the name of '''MP4 Player for GBA'''. Nintendo of Europe confirmed that Europe would be receiving the Play-Yan along with the Game Boy Micro at the 2005 Games Convention in Germany , although a release date and plans for an American release are yet to be announced. The former announcement has yet to be fulfilled with a proper release of the Play-Yan in Europe, and no further news on a release has been published, although the first issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine did place the Play-Yan in the year 2006 in a timeline of Nintendo's innovations. Currently a 2006 release date is planned for the USA as well. |
