A mostly dormant warehouse since the end of trans-Atlantic ocean liner service in the 1950s - 1960s , Pier 21 was renovated and reopened as a Canadian National Historic Site in 1999 . It now houses a museum dedicated to the millions of people who passed through its doors and an event venue, particularly for large conferences and corporate annual shareholder meetings. Both Prime Minister Paul Martin and US President , George W. Bush gave speeches at the pier during his first official visit to Canada in December, 2004 , Martin spoke first, beginning his speech by mentioning Operation Yellow Ribbon . EXTERNAL LINKS |
