SUMMARY The story revolves around a man named Richard Upton Pickman who paints horrible images. His paintings are so horrible in fact that he is kicked out the college he is attending. The narrator is a friend of Pickman and is taken on a tour of Pickman's personal gallery. As the two delve deeper into Pickman's mind and art, the rooms seem to grow ever more evil and the paintings ever more horrific. A noise sends Pickman running outside the room with a gun, and the narrator hears shots.
