Philip Syng Physick ( July 7 , 1768 - December 15 , 1837 ) was an American physician born in Philadelphia . He obtained his degree in medicine from the University Of Edinburgh in 1792 and returned to his city of birth to practice, taking a position at Pennsylvania Hospital . He has been called the "Father of American Surgery". He is the grandfather of Emlen Physick of Cape May, New Jersey . |
