Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium is a traditional-style Console Role-playing Game released in 1994 for the Mega Drive/Genesis . It was also released on the Sega Saturn Phantasy Star Collection version. Part four of SEGA's '' Phantasy Star '' series of games, Phantasy Star IV combines Anime -style artwork, leveling characters, in-depth storyline, interplanetary travel, and a quest for the forces of good over evil.

The battle system is turn-based, and allows up to five characters to be given a choice of commands. Unique to this game is the ability to save lists of commands, called "Macros", and execute battle strategies in a single command. Certain combinations of attacks can produce combo attacks, dealing even more damage to the enemies.

STORY

Introduction

"The long, long struggle of ancient times finally ended...
The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens.
Four bells tolled. Four torches were lit.
And the world continued for thousands of years..."

PHANTASY STAR

The End of the Millennium

"The Algo Solar System , somewhere in space...

Once a brilliant civilization flourished here. The citizens devoted themselves to art and the sciences, and life was prosperous and good. then a series of disasters struck. The system-wide management system, ' Mother Brain ,' was destroyed. So was the first planet, Parma. Over 90% of the system's population died, and the advanced technological culture was lost.

Society declined, spiralling downward until at last only a few scattered groups even remembered there once were better times.
A thousand years passed.
At last, civilization is once more on the rise across the Algo system. People are again turning to thoughts of an easier life. Old knowledge is being rediscovered.
But just as things look brighter, beyond a threshold long thought closed, a dark and very ancient evil stirs..."

TRIVIA

Originally, ''Phantasy Star IV'' was being designed for the Sega CD , and was vastly different back in its early days. Features like 3D dungeons (like in the first '' Phantasy Star ''), anime cutscenes, full voices, and much more were planned. Unfortunately, due to poor sales and lack of good support on the Sega CD platform caused a change of plans midway through development. Most of the features were scrapped from the final design, and the end result is a cartridge game that bore little resemblance to its planned CD cousin.
