Peter Maffay (born Musician . BIOGRAPHY / LIFE HISTORY Maffay emigrated in 1963 with his ethnic German parents to Germany. Already in the same year, He created his first volume "The Dukes". After school and a period learning Chemigraphics (artwork manufacturer), the guitarist Maffay, with Bob Dylan and Donovan , worked in clubs, with which he shared his music, also to do with peace. The career of Peter Maffay began in December 1969, with the publication of his first single, "Du" (You). "Du" was the biggest hit of the 1970's and it made Maffay a star overnight. The 70's were shaped by predominantly simple Rock'n'Roll numbers and Ballads; Maffay however maintained his place in the music business. With the album "Steppenwolf" in 1979, Maffay quickly rose to the throne of German rock music. The Album sold itself 1.6 million times over, making it the best selling LP at that time. In 1980 the album "Revanche" (Revenge) followed and built the record even further (to date over 2.1 million copies sold). For 25 years all of his albums have had similarly strong success. With 15 albums placed number 1 in the sales charts, He holds the record by a long way. Even the albums which did not place number 1, all reached (the first 3 excluded) the Top 10 over a period of several weeks. Also, the fact that 13 of his albums have sold over 1,000,000 (One Million) copies, is a unique record in Germany. His latest album "Laut und Leise" (Loud and Quiet), currently placed at #1 for 3 weeks, is on its way to becoming million seller number 14. Altogether, Maffay has sold over 35 million records, by a long way the most of all German rock and pop musicians. So far, each of his tours has ranked since 1980 among the 3 most visited attractions each season. Since 1980, Maffay has been on tour 13 time (roughly every 2 years), and out of those 13 tours, 9 of them have gained the most visitors of any attraction per year. Apart from Rock music, he created a string of fairy tales for the young and old alike, about a little green dragon called Tabaluga , which has already spread out onto four albums. Over many years, this piece has been a highly rated Musical . Apart from the regular musical cast, Maffay himself went on tour with "Tabaluga & Lilli" in Germany (and released a live album, DVD and live TV broadcast later on). The tour included Peter Maffay, Alexis , Nino de Angelo and Rufus Beck among others. Also, the meeting for his album released in 1998 was a high point of a special kind: Maffay played with artists from all corners of the world, including Aborigine singers, and musicians from Israel . As an actor he gained experience, starring in two films from the director - 1986 in the Joker and 1999 in Captured in Yemen. In addition Maffay played a supporting role in the feature "The Polar Bear ". Besides his musical work, Peter Maffay is privately rather the opposite than one expects from a cool, hard rocker. He is engaged in politics and converts its opinions sometimes into his songs. He is active in the peace movement, giving a concert in 2005 for German troops in Afghanistan. Maffay makes donations of funds from his own fortune for projects for traumatised and abused children. On Mallorca, he established a farm where traumatised children from all over the world can have holidays free of charge for two weeks, to help them overcome and forget about their problems for a while. For his social commitment he received the Order of Merit in 1996 and in 2001, an award called "The Golden Hen". Peter Maffay has been married 4 times, has a son and lives with his family on a Farm on Mallorca. One of his hobbies is motorcycle riding. In 1972, Maffay injured himself severely in an accident, after crashing his Harley Davidson . Later he crossed the Sahara Desert several times on his motorcycle.
