Information About

Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights

CHARACTERS

The owner of The Phoenix Club is the wheelchair-bound ( Ted Robbins ). Perry is the Mafia don of Clubland and the owner of rival club The Banana Grove.

Other characters

  • Ray Von (not Vaughn) ( Neil Fitzmaurice ): the dangerously over-keen DJ, electrician and part time con-man.

  • Jerry St Clair ( Dave Spikey ): the licensee (in series two) and resident singer/entertainer (real name — Jerry Dignan). He won the 1992 Talent Trek competition, and never seems to realise that Brian is really the one in charge.

  • Max ( Peter Kay ) and Paddy ( Patrick McGuinness ): the useless doormen. Paddy is confident and a hit with women (but balding), while Max is the more shy and introverted of the two.

  • Young Kenny ( Justin Moorhouse ): the 'handyman'. He was left with his face permanently painted like a tiger in series 2.

  • Alan Johnson ( Steve Edge ) and Les ( Toby Foster ): the backing band, Les Alanos.

  • Kenny Senior ( Archie Kelly ): a notorious liar.

  • Holy Mary ( Janice Connolly ) and Marion ( Bea Kelley ): the bar staff and cleaners.

  • Spencer ( Daniel Kitson ): the gormless barman, who was hired in series 2 just because the DSS would pay his wages and it wouldn't cost the Phoenix Club a penny.

  • Dodgy Eric ( Bernard Wrigley ): he delivered a bucking bronco, then a phallic bouncy castle for the entertainment of the Club's patrons.

  • Keith Lard (Peter Kay): an over-zealous and corrupt fire safety officer with an unfortunate weakness for man's best friend. In fact, the character was also the bone of contention in a slander case involving a real fire officer who had a similar name, Keith Laird. He sued the makers of the series, alleging that the "Keith Lard" character was defamatory, as it depicted him taking back-handers from businesses in exchange for fire certificates. (This was along with the Bestiality allegations.) However, Channel 4 had to broadcast an apology.
