Peter Baranovsky




He was born in village Shuyskoye in Smolensk Gubernia .

In 1928 - 1929 he documented and photographed the historical objects in the Boldin Monastery near Smolensk.



He developed new restoration techniques used to rebuild many historical landmarks ruined during the Great Patriotic War .

Risking his life and freedom he defended from demolition by the Soviet Government Saint Basil's Cathedral and many other landmarks of Moscow. Eventually he was arrested and later exiled for his activities.

After his death in 1981 , The Kazan Cathedral In Moscow was rebuilt using his measurements ( 1993 ).
