The People's United Party is the ruling Christian Democratic political party of Belize . It won 22 of the 29 seats in the House Of Representatives in 2003. It presently holds 21 seats, having lost one to the United Democratic Party in a by-election in early 2004, after the death of one of their MPs. The Cabinet (Executive Branch) is led by Prime Minister Said Musa of the PUP. The party governed Belize from independence in 1981 to 1984 , then 1989 to 1993 , and now again from 1998 . In its first two sessions of government it was led by George Cadle Price , who founded the party in 1950 . |
