Paris Metro Line 4 is the second busiest
Metro line serving
Paris ,
France . It crosses the city from Porte de Clignancourt northbound to Porte d'Orléans southbound. It's also the line where the temperature is the warmest as its been built at a deep level and it is operated with rubber-tyred trains.
- A first section of the line is inaugurated northbound between Porte de Clignancourt and Châtelet.
- A second section of the line is inaugurated southbound between Porte d'Orléans and Raspail.
- Both sections are linked with a new tunnel between Châtelet and Rapail. The line 4 is the first line crossing the Seine river underground.
- The rails are converted in order to welcome rubber-tyred trains.
- The station Les Halles is rebuilt in order to welcome the new RER network.
An extension to the south with one more station (
Mairie De Montrouge ) is foreseen for 2010.
Later on, the line could be extended further south with two more stations to and
Bagneux .
The line is foreseen to be converted to automated system (like
Line 14 ), after conversion of
Line 1 is completed.
- Vaugirard station is renamed Saint-Placide.
- Boulevard Saint-Denis is renamed Strasbourg - Saint-Denis.
- Marcadet is renamed Marcadet - Poissonniers.
- Montparnasse is renamed Montparnasse - Bienvenüe.
