The line 2 was the second
Metro line built in
Paris ,
France . It was known in its very first years as the line "2 Nord" (2 North) as it consisted of the Northern portion of a circular metro line. That denomination was abandonned when the
Line 5 absorbed the line "2 Sud" (2 South) in
1907 (it would later lose it again to the
Line 6 in
1942 .)
In early
2006 , it was announced that line 2 along with two other lines will receive a new rolling stock. These trains will be introduced in late
2007 .
- The first portion of the line "2 Nord" is inaugurated between Porte Dauphine and Etoile.
- The line is extended from Etoile to Anvers.
- The line is extended from Anvers to Bagnolet.
- The line is extended from Bagnolet to Nation.
- An electric shortcut at Menilmontant station generates a fire with a smoke reaching the station Couronnes, asphyxiating 84 people.
- The line "2 Nord" is renamed as line 2.
- Boulevard Barbès is renamed Barbès - Rochechouart.
- Rue d'Allemagne is renamed Jaurès.
- Aubervilliers is renamed Aubervilliers - Boulevard de la Vilette.
- Combat is renamed Colonel Fabien.
- Aubervilliers - Boulevard de la Vilette is renamed Stalingrad.
- Etoile is renamed Charles de Gaulle - Etoile.
- Bagnolet is renamed Alexandre Dumas.
- The Aerial stations between Barbès - Rochechouart and Jaurès are built on a viaduct offering views on Paris .
- Metro line 2 crosses several places of interest :
- ---The Avenue Foch , which is the largest avenue in Paris and the Arc De Triomphe .
- ---The Parc Monceau.
- --- Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge .
- ---Barbès and Belleville and their African and Asian influences.
