Located in the city of Washington, NC , the Pamlico River was a key river in the Confederate and Union war effort. The river houses a sunken Union battleship, the Picket . The Highway 33 Bridge, which connects Washington with nearby Chocowinity , splits the river, making it the Tar River . PRESENT Though the river no longer has any steamers and cargo ships floating down it, it still carries 100's of boats per year. It is a beautiful spot to cast a reel and rod and go fishing. There is also an estuary, which is where the river meets the sea. |
