GEOGRAPHY Pacolet is located at 34°54'18" North, 81°45'26" West (34.904923, -81.757253). According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 7.7 Km&2 (3.0 Mi&2 ). 7.7 km&2 (3.0 mi&2) of it is land and 0.34% is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,690 people, 1,070 households, and 724 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 349.7/km&2 (906.8/mi&2). There were 1,178 housing units at an average density of 153.1/km&2 (397.1/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 71.78% White , 26.21% African American , 0.26% Native American , 0.52% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.22% from Other Races , and 1.00% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,070 households out of which 26.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were Married Couples living together, 16.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.00. In the town the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males. The median income for a household in the town was $31,494, and the median income for a family was $41,367. Males had a median income of $30,592 versus $22,440 for females.
