GEOGRAPHY According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 1,956 Km&2 (755 Mi&2 ). 1,922 km&2 (742 mi&2) of it is land and 33 km&2 (13 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.71% water. Adjacent counties
Major highways DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 9,542 people, 3,950 households, and 2,855 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 5/km&2 (13/mi&2). There were 5,114 housing units at an average density of 3/km&2 (7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 97.57% White , 0.15% Black or African American , 0.65% Native American , 0.08% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.19% from Other Races , and 1.36% from two or more races. 0.94% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 3,950 households out of which 26.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.20% were Married Couples living together, 6.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.70% were non-families. 24.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.81. In the county the population was spread out with 22.10% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 22.80% from 25 to 44, 28.70% from 45 to 64, and 19.50% who were 65 years of age or older.
