Oz, who has served as Treasurer of the Maryland Democrat Party, will be competing with several candidates in the Democrat primary election on September 12, 2006. The general election will be in November 2006. A native of Maryland, Oz is a graduate of public schools in Montgomery County, Maryland and Washington, DC. He received his A.B. from Princeton University and an advanced degree from Cambridge University, England. Oz began his career in Massachusetts where he worked with troubled children and families. He was involved in reforms that changed the face of juvenile corrections and published a national research study on alternatives to incarceration for juveniles. He later worked as a special assistant to Maine Governor Joseph Brennan where he served as constituent liason and staff person assigned to the Departments of Corrections, Housing, Business Regulation and the Governor's Pardons & Commutations Board. Following the energy crisis of the late 1970'3, Oz served as Deputy Director of the Maine State Energy Office that developed energy conservation programs. Oz is an expert in business and government finance. He has helped low and moderate income famlies buy homes. He has provided financial and strategic advice to small and mid-sized companies. With a partner, Oz founded his own firm that advises small and mid-size companies and has started several small businesses that have created hundreds of jobs. Oz has been committed to public and community service throughout his career. He has served on the boards of several community organizations including the Baltimore Parks and People Foundation and Baltimore Choral Arts Society. He has been a Trustee of the Baltimore County Public Library System and served as President of the Children's Chorus of Maryland and School of Music. Oz has three children: Noah, a Marine Captain and Harrier pilot, Dinah, a senior at Colby College and Nick, a sophomore at Towson (MD) High School. He lives with his son Nick and dog Whiskey in Towson, Maryland. |
