GEOGRAPHY

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 50.8 Km&2 (19.6 Mi&2 ). 23.0 km&2 (8.9 mi&2) of it is land and 27.7 km&2 (10.7 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 54.64% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 1,601 people, 723 households, and 469 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 69.5/km&2 (180.1/mi&2). There were 992 housing units at an average density of 43.1/km&2 (111.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.94% White , 0.06% African American , 0.06% Native American , 0.19% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.12% from Other Races , and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.31% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 723 households out of which 21.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were Married Couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.68.

In the town the population was spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 29.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $40,107, and the median income for a family was $49,231. Males had a median income of $31,685 versus $21,970 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $22,660. 8.1% of the population and 4.2% of families were below the Poverty Line . 11.0% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
