The Overlook Hotel is the fictional hotel from Stephen King 's novel " The Shining ", the Stanley Kubrick film based on the novel, and the mini-series also based on his novel. Stephen King stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park , Colorado , and it inspired him to base the hotel from his novel on it. The Timberline Lodge on Oregon 's Mount Hood served as a location for aerial and exterior shots of the Overlook in Kubrick's film adaptation of the novel. The hedge maze and interior locations for the film were shot at Elstree Studios in England. |
