The Labor Unions have been a mixed bag for Kulongoski this time around. He has secured the endorsement of the private unions such as the United Food And Commercial Workers Union , the Teamsters and the Oregon State Building and Construction Trade Councils. The Oregon chapter of the National Education Association , which endorsed Kulongoski in 2002 , decided against endorsing any candidate in the primary election.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which also endorsed Kulongoski in 2002, decided to instead endorse fellow Democrat Jim Hill. This is likely due to the fact that Kulongoski pushed through legislation to reform that Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) in 2005 . {Link without Title} Hill also received the endorsement of the Oregon State Fire Fighters Council.
