Information About

Ophelia (character)

Ophelia is the submissive daughter of Polonius , a chief advisor to the new King Claudius , in the play '' Hamlet '' by William Shakespeare . She is deeply loved by both Hamlet and her brother, Laertes . Nothing is known about her mother, as the subject is not touched upon in the play. Ophelia is believed to be around 16-19 years old, with many believing her to be on the younger end of that scale.

Ophelia's loyalty to her family is proven by her obedience to her father's instruction "that she should lock herself from {Link without Title} resort." Polonius firmly believes Ophelia to be the cause of Hamlet's apparent madness and tests his theory by secretly observing a set up meeting between the two lovers. Hamlet, realizing Ophelia is confederate in her father's plot and generally upset with women, makes many cruel and humiliating remarks.

Now truly convinced that he is mad, Ophelia comments sadly: "O, what a noble mind here is o'erthrown." She loved Hamlet, and he rejected her. On top of that, however, she hears that her father has been brutally stabbed--by Hamlet himself. This is too much for her; she loses her sanity, walks down to a stream and, in a possible act of suicide, drowns.

French writer Arthur Rimbaud wrote the poem 'Ophélie' about her.

In the recent popular Capcom , Ophelia, however, was depicted as the demonic priestess of the genma/demon's legion, one of the core member of Genma Triumvirate , she taking the guise of Lady Yodo /Cha-Cha, wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi , by possessing into her body.
