OTHER DETAILS Apart from its weaponry and appearance, however, Opa-Opa is quite an enigma. It does not appear to have any specific gender, nor does it have any distinguishing features showing it's age, although a recurring theme in the games is having a large ship similar to Opa-Opa as the final boss. This might indicate that the ships increase in size with age. It can be assumed that they can breed, since Opa-Opa's father, O-papa, is in almost every installment of the series (excluding ''Fantasy Zone Gear'', for the '' Sega Game Gear ''). One mystery is whether Opa-Opa has a pilot, or if it is indeed a sentient life form. The introduction of ''Fantasy Zone 2: The Tears of Opa-Opa'' shows Opa-Opa in a comical and animated fashion, using one of its wings to give the player a peace sign. Therefore, it is most likely self-aware. Another question was whether Opa-Opa was a unique lifeform or a member of an entire species. This was cleared up in the fourth installment of the series ''Super Fantasy Zone'' ('' Sega Genesis/Mega Drive ''), the introduction of which shows many ships like Opa-Opa living in large towns and using complex computer equipment, complete with elongated arms and hands instead of wings. It's most likely that the creatures' limbs are interchangeable in some way. Opa-Opa's species appears to be unnamed. APPEARANCES Opa-Opa has appeared outside Fantasy Zone numerous times, mostly making cameos in other Sega games. However, one notable appearance was in the animated series Zillion , where he acted as an alert for the main characters, usually by crashing into the ground comically, with its cockpit flashing red and emitting a loud buzz. He also appears in the Zillion video game for the '' Sega Master System '' as a menu cursor. Opa-Opa also appears as a MAG in the Phantasy Star Online series. It is created by using the rare halloween Rappy drop item "Heart of Opa-Opa" on a regular MAG with at least 100 mind. His most recent appearances is in Sonic Riders , as both an obstacle and an Extreme Gear . |
