These commercials ( PSAs )would appear imeediately after the end credits of an NBC cartoon, and they would be hosted by the star of an NBC primetime show in the 1980s (e.g. Michael J. Fox and Justine Bateman from Family Ties , Mr. T from The A-Team , Richard Moll from Night Court , Tempestt Bledsoe from The Cosby Show ). The commercial intro would start with an animated sequence where a mother would scold her son. They would morph into a woman then immediately into a boy and a giant sundae. He would eat the sundae and morph into a pig, and then into a vacuum cleaner, which is held by a stay-at-hom mom. The stay-at-home mom would look outside her window where a boy and a girl are playing catch. An cartoon TV would appear with a live person (star of a 1980s NBC show) on the screen introducing himself or herself. The screen fades and then a live-action sequence would appear. In this sequence a kid or teenager would something wrong or improper and get into trouble. The sequence would then pause, and the NBC star would explain why the behavior was wrong and how to solve a problem. Then the commercial would zoom back to the scenario where the kid or teen rectifies his error and solves his/her problem. Finally the commercial would fade back to the cartoon-like TV screen where the NBC star would say the concluding statement: "And that's One to Grow On." Kids who grew up watching NBC cartoons like the Smurfs or Alvin And The Chipmunks particularly remember these commercials. The final broadcast of these commercials was on September 2, 1989. |
