One, two, three, four, five. Once I caught a fish alive. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Then I let it go again. Why did you let it go? Because it bit my finger so. Which finger did it bite? This little finger on my right. As with many counting-based nursery rhymes, it includes a rhythmic counting to ten with memorable rhymes, and a story to encourage children to listen and repeat it. The question and answer format of the second verse is another common feature of rhymes, as it engages a child and encourages them to play a part. |
