Information About

Office Of Oceanic And Atmospheric Research

NOAA Research is the research and development arm of NOAA and is responsible for developing products and providing information to support the mission of NOAA and its constituent parts such as the National Weather Service and National Ocean Service .

WHAT NOAA RESEARCH DOES

NOAA Research's works in partnership with other divisions of NOAA and university partners across the United States to develop advanced technologies, methods of information distribution and cutting edge research to provide a better understanding of the weather and ocean systems of Earth, better weather forecasts and earlier warnings for natural disasters.

The components and programs of NOAA Research are:

NOAA Research has three primary research areas: climate, atmosphere and oceans.

Climate research

NOAA'a research laboratories, Office of Global Programs and research partners conduct research into complex Climate systems and how they work. The goal is to improve Climate Model s to facilitate better prediction of short term and long term climate variations.

Atmospheric research

Research is done on the upper and lower Atmosphere s as well as the Space Environment in order to better understand the processes that create weather. This research has led to improved technologies and weather modelling for predicting Severe Weather .

Ocean and coastal research

NOAA Research investigates ocean habitats and resources to help manage Fisheries , conserve and protect Coast s, and advance Biotechnology and Aquaculture .

NOAA RESEARCH LABORATORIES

There are 11 laboratories that are part of NOAA Research. Of the 12, six are located in Boulder , CO with the remainder located throughout the United States near their areas of focus.

JOINT INSTITUTE RESEARCH PARTNERS

NOAA Research partners with research-oriented universities snd institutions to share data and resources to advance the goals of NOAA.
