"Nuts in May" is a Nursery Rhyme often sung as a game with the aim of pairing a boy and girl from within the singers. One theory relating to the nuts, which normally would not be collectable until the autumn, is that this was part of mayday celebrations when folk would go collecting knots (not nuts) of flowers for the festive decorations. May is not normally associated with frosts. An alternative theory is that the nuts refer to the sweet edible tubers of the Pignut plant. LYRICS
