Region was named after Serbs , who migrated in 1752 to Russia from Austrian Empire (mainly from the territory of present day Vojvodina ). Russian authorities gave to these Serbian settlers a land, which granted name Nova Serbia (New Serbia). In the new home, Serbs founded many new villages, which had same names as the villages in their old motherland. SEE ALSO |
