RESERVATION The state-recognized reservation is located in the southwestern portion of Michigan . The NHBP has communities and properties in or near the towns of Athens , Bradley , and Battle Creek . The Tribe has approximately 400 members spread throughout these communities. COMMUNITY The NHBP is governed by a 5-member tribal council, which includes the following executive officers: chairperson, secretary, treasurer and sergeant at arms. The Tribe's environmental department reports directly to the tribal operations manager and consists of the environmental director and the environmental planner. The department is also in the process of setting up and establishing an Environmental and Natural Resource Regulatory Commission. The environmental department is responsible for establishing environmental ordinances and policies, attending and representing the tribe at environmental meetings of tribal importance, preparing environmental assessments, creation of various environmental management plans, and ensuring compliance with tribal/federal environmental regulations.
